Shortland Chambers is delighted to announce that Bob Hollyman has been appointed Queen's Counsel.

Bob Hollyman graduated with BA LLB (Hons) from the University of Auckland and was admitted in 1995.  He worked as a judge’s clerk in the Court of Appeal, and in the Criminal and Crown Solicitors Team at the Crown Law Office before undertaking LLM studies at the University of Toronto.  Bob returned to New Zealand to join Bell Gully in 2000 and moved to the independent bar in 2006.  Bob has specific interests in contract, torts (particularly misrepresentation), company and commercial disputes, and insolvency.  He is the author of Falsehood and Breach of Contract (2017).  Bob’s full profile is here.

Shortland Chambers held its annual cocktail party for the Auckland legal profession on Thursday 27 September 2018 at the Northern Club.   

The guest speaker was Dr Bridgette Toy-Cronin, the Director of the University of Otago Legal Issues Centre and Senior Lecturer with the Faculty of Law.  Dr Toy-Cronin’s speech focused on some of the systemic issues facing the New Zealand legal system and the legal profession, and how those issues were undermining access to justice.  Her speech was very interesting and well received.

Overall, an excellent evening.  

This was the 12th annual cocktail party which Chambers has held, and we look forward to hosting another in 2019.

Shortland Chambers was pleased to support Auckland Women’s Lawyers Association with their annual moot competition by hosting the prize giving at Chambers on Monday 1 October 2018.  The moot is open to female law students at Auckland Law School and AUT law school.  This year it was won by two third year Auckland Law School students: Annelise Chan and Monica Sayani.  The runners up were also from Auckland this year: Richelle Go Ocao and Karen Chow. The final was judged by Justice Hinton, Christine Meechan QC and Marie Dyhrberg QC.  Congratulations to the competitors!
